Learning Programme: Introduction to Mental Health & Well-Being
We have developed our Learning Programmes to allow students to work towards carefully selected AQA Unit Awards from Pre-Entry to Level 2.
For this Learning Programme these include:
Good Health & Mental Well-being
Emotional & Mental Well-being
Looking after my Mental Health
5 ways to Well-being

What is this Learning Programme about?
This Learning Programme is designed for students to develop essential skills to improve their mental wellbeing and emotional resilience.
Students will learn how to communicate their emotions effectively and explore the strong link between happiness and social connections.
Discover at least 3 practical ways to enhance mental wellbeing, alongside an understanding of the 5 ways to wellbeing and examples of activities.
Students will gain insight into different states of mind, including the reasonable mind, the wise mind, and the emotional mind.

What will I achieve when I complete?
Students will also gain awareness of behavioural indicators of emotional distress, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to look after both their own mental health and that of those around them.
Our carefully crafted Learning Programmes are designed to support both learning and well-being by blending practical activities with work books and independent learning with support from staff in school.
On completion, 4 AQA Unit Award Certifications at Pre-Entry & Entry Level will be achieved.

What will I learn?
Collaboration is encouraged where possible, as students contribute to discussions, and keep a ‘feelings chart’ to track emotions.
They will engage in conversations about stress, anxiety, and depression, learning key coping strategies.
By the end of the Learning Programme, learners will be able to identify causes, signs, and symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression, along with effective ways to manage these challenges.
Additionally, they will explore relaxation techniques such as mindfulness, yoga, or meditation to promote mental wellbeing.

What activities will I complete?
Through engaging activities, students will practise gratitude by:
writing three good things about their day
try an activity from the five ways to wellbeing
complete a ‘taking notice’ exercise to appreciate life’s small joys
They will also develop emotional awareness by recognising different emotions, understanding responses to feeling low, and identifying ways to seek help. Crucially, students will learn when to seek professional help
